Hi! I’m Alexandra — nice to see you here.
I’m a Belarus-born, Germany-based artist, designer and desgin researcher. I studied fashion and textile design in Belarus and worked for several years as a fashion, textile, and print designer.
My path started at art school and in sewing classes taught by a woman who had previously worked in a Soviet sewing atelier. Later, a five-year fashion and textile design program in Vitebsk — strongly focused on art practice — helped me shape my own visual language and way of working.
During my studies, my mum helped me knit pieces for my fashion collections — and that’s how two practices began to grow side by side. Over time, they evolved into two personal projects I run with care:
meinekleinesketch, my artistic space for reflecting on emotions and everyday world matters through an ironic and observant lens; and neuwegknit, a knitwear project rooted in handicraft, generational share of knowledge, and slow production.
Alongside my artistic and design practice, I also work with socially engaged formats. I curate onecoffeeonesketch, a weekly sketching meeting in Dessau happening since September 2024 that brings people together through drawing, conversation, and shared presence. The project originated among Belarusian women artists and illustrators who relocated to different cities across Europe. It could no longer continue in Belarus, but the format lives on through local adaptations.
In Dessau, onecoffeeonesketch exists as a living, open structure — a space to meet, engage, and draw together mostly in cafes around the city.
I later expanded my practice through a Master’s program in Design Research in cooperation with the Bauhaus Foundation Dessau, focusing on socialist craft practices in East Germany and Belarus. This research continues to inform how I think about making, care, and everyday life — across artistic, material, and social forms.

Alexandra Liakhavets
About meinekleiensketch:
meine kleine #sketchbook / meinekleinesketch is the space where I express myself as an artist. Through this practice, I reflect on everyday experiences that feel touching, annoying, or personally disturbing.
I work with a mixed-media approach, with gouache as my primary medium. My work addresses political questions, personal worries, and constellations surrounding the human within mundane everyday life—such as societal hierarchies, class connotations, and power dynamics.
With a slightly ironic perspective, I explore mental health and social relations through objects, phrases, and recurring characters. I work exclusively with non-digital processes; for me, making art is a way of being present—away from laptops and phone screens—allowing time, slowness, and attention to shape the work.
My background in fashion design in Belarus influences my visual language, particularly in the way I distort human figures and emphasize clothing, color, and pattern as expressive tools.
About neuwegknit:
Neuwegknit is a brand with Belarusian soul, created by a mother and daughter: a fashion designer and a knitter with 40 years of experience.
Working in fashion mass production and fast-changing trends taught us that we want to take a different path—one of slow fashion and uniqueness. We celebrate local craftsmanship, transparency, and timeless design.
Our pieces speak to those who appreciate handcrafted work, one-of-a-kind knitwear, and quality over quantity.
We are a small, independent team of just 2, creating each piece with care and intention. Our work is not about mass production but about meaningful, handcrafted pieces made to be treasured.
